Eternal Icon and Effervescent Muse
Brigitte Bardot was not just an actress. She was an era, an aesthetic, an idea of femininity that crossed the twentieth century, leaving a luminous trail. A “scent of eternity”, as she was often described in France. With And God… Created Woman, she embodied the French woman with a capital F: educated and rebellious, sensual and distant, fragile and invincible. A blonde whirlwind bursting onto post-war screens, overturning conventions, dancing the mambo on the tables of Saint-Tropez and transforming spontaneity into style.
Yet glory always felt too tight for her. Bardot chose to stop in time, to withdraw to La Madrague, allowing the myth to continue living without being consumed by overexposure. It is this clarity that made her a living legend: pin-up and ancient goddess at once, popular icon and almost mythological figure.

She was simply called BB. And Champagne was her favourite drink.
With those initials, the connection was natural. In 2019, Maison Besserat de Bellefon succeeded in involving her in a project bearing her symbolic signature. There was no need for lengthy negotiations: a single email sent personally by Brigitte Bardot to the Épernay headquarters was enough to seal the agreement. The actress did not merely lend her name and a selection of iconic images, but also took part in stylistic choices, expressing a precise wish: a Champagne with a more generous dosage, capable of reflecting her personal taste. Thus the BB cuvée was born, with a dosage of 20 grams per litre, decidedly higher than contemporary standards. A countercurrent choice, consistent with the free-spirited character of its muse.

“My life has been full of Champagne bubbles. They carry with them a joy of living, a symbolic effervescence of exceptional moments,” Bardot declared at the time of the launch.

The Maison has recently renovated an eighteenth-century building just a few metres from the famous Avenue de Champagne, transforming it into a modern headquarters with strong symbolic value.

At the entrance, a black-and-white chequered floor recalls an iconic photograph of Bardot, while the marine-blue walls, crossed by the brand’s white and blue stripes, evoke Saint-Tropez. At the centre, the actress’s bust dominates the space as a constant point of reference. “We have combined past and future, blending modern and ancient,” explains president Nathalie Doucet.

BB Brigitte Bardot, the sensual expression of Champagne according to an icon
The BB cuvée is born from the assemblage of 30% Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Bisseuil and Grauves and 70% Pinot Noir from Cumières, Mailly and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, from the 2014 harvest. After three years of ageing on the lees, disgorgement took place in June 2018, with a Sec dosage of 19 g/l. On the olfactory profile, a seductive and immediately recognisable expression develops, with candied citrus, dried fruit, hints of panettone and sweet ginger spice. The overall impression is enveloping and солне, built on a generous and harmonious aromatic framework. On the palate, a pleasant citrus-driven tension emerges, accompanying the wine’s structure, supported by a broad progression and a savoury finish, capable of giving momentum and dynamism. The result is a Champagne of great drinkability, conceived for conviviality and for a hedonistic reading of the glass, without renouncing balance and precision.

The BB cuvée is not just a tribute to an icon. It is the liquid translation of a lifestyle, of an unrepeatable era and of a femininity that still today continues to speak to the world with a free and luminous voice.
