A meeting of Metodo Classico, art, and architecture There are wines that tell the story of time, and places that preserve it. On May 28th, 2025, the Sforza Castle in Milan hosted an exclusive event by Cesarini Sforza: an evening that wove together history, culture, and Metodo Classico in an elegant dialogue between past and present.
The origins of Trentino excellence The Cesarini Sforza family traces its roots between Parma and Trento, standing out for its nobility, culture, and entrepreneurial spirit. From this heritage was born, in 1974, the sparkling wine house founded by Lamberto Cesarini Sforza, driven by the ambition to create Metodo Classico wines of the highest quality in the heart of Trentino.
Today, it is one of the most refined signatures of Trentodoc. The vineyards stretch across the evocative Val di Cembra, between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, where heroic viticulture meets a terroir of extraordinary aromatic purity and mineral tension. Here, artisanal tradition merges with a contemporary vision built on technical precision, sustainability, and profound respect for the land.
The 1673 Collection: elegance and verticality Cesarini Sforza’s production philosophy is reflected in every detail: from hand harvesting to gentle pressing, from ageing on the lees to the careful selection of the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir parcels. The result is a collection that seeks not merely formal perfection, but a profound harmony between substance, time, and terroir.
The 1673 Line — Riserva, Rosé, Noir Nature, and Millesimato — represents the most accomplished expression of the Cesarini Sforza style: high-altitude sparkling wines that combine verticality and creaminess, aromatic finesse and expressive strength, in a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
A journey within the castle walls The evening began in the Cortile delle Armi, where a small pergola at the center of the lawn welcomed the guests. From there, the path unfolded along walkways, towers, and battlements up to the Torre Falconiera, offering a unique view of Milan — suspended between the greenery of Parco Sempione and the brick towers of the Castle. Walking among ancient stones in the soft evening light prepared the guests for the second part of the experience: the technical tasting of the 1673 Collection.
Tasting the territory In the refined setting of Caffè Calicantus, located in the castle’s inner courtyard, the tasting became a sensory narrative guided by oenologist Andrea Buccella. The four labels of the 1673 Line revealed the many nuances of the Trentino mountains: elegance, precision, and respect for time intertwined in every glass.
1673 Riserva 2017 100% Chardonnay, cultivated between 550 and 640 meters in the Val di Cembra on sub-alkaline porphyric sands, this Metodo Classico translates the very essence of Trentino’s verticality into liquid form. The vines, trained in pergola semplice trentina and guyot systems with a density of 5,000 plants per hectare, yield a modest 45 hl/ha — a guarantee of concentration and finesse. The grapes are hand-harvested between late August and early September. Whole clusters are pressed in a Marmonier vertical press, followed by static settling and fermentation of the cuvée juice only, in stainless steel at controlled temperature. After at least seven months of lees ageing, tirage takes place no earlier than June, followed by more than 70 months of ageing on the lees. Disgorged in 2024. At the olfactory, it unfolds with a slow, deep rhythm: candied citron and bergamot peel, toasted almond, pastry cream, and a hint of sponge cake. Nuances of dried flowers and a faint touch of flint emerge with time. On the palate, it is poised and consistent, built around a mineral core that supports the fruit, with creaminess and energy that extend the finish. The perlage is fine, continuous, perfectly integrated. A Brut that marries warmth with rigor, tradition with restraint.
1673 Rosé 2017 100% Pinot Noir from vineyards located between 450 and 600 meters above sea level, facing south and southwest in the Val di Cembra: a mountain Rosé that combines grace and structure. The sandy soils, of fluvio-glacial and porphyric origin, host vines trained in guyot and pergola trentina, with a density of 5,000 plants per hectare and a yield of 40 hl/ha. Manual harvesting takes place between late August and early September. After gentle pressing and a brief maceration in the press to extract color, the must ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperature. The wine then ages on its fine lees for about seven months, followed by bottle fermentation and 60 months of ageing on the lees. Disgorged in 2024. At the olfactory, it opens on small red fruits — redcurrant and blueberry — followed by nuances of wild strawberry, flowers, and fresh almond. The whole is delicate and transparent, underlined by a mineral trace that reveals its origin. On the palate, the texture is both silky and taut: freshness unfolds over notes of cherry and pomegranate, while the perlage sculpts a continuous, aristocratic rhythm. A Rosé defined by balance and depth.
1673 Noir Nature 2018 100% Pinot Noir, vinified with no dosage, born between 500 and 600 meters above sea level on the southeast-facing slopes of the Val di Cembra, where the loose, sandy-loam soils rich in porphyry impart tension and character. The vines, trained in guyot and pergola trentina, yield about 45 hl/ha, with 50% reserved for the purest cuvée juice. The grapes are hand-harvested between late August and early September. Whole clusters are pressed in the Marmonier vertical press; part of the selections undergo malolactic fermentation. The cuvée is assembled in late spring, with tirage after June and 48 months of ageing on the lees. Disgorgement takes place without any liqueur de dosage. Disgorged in 2023. At the olfactory, it unites tension and warmth: redcurrant, raspberry, white pepper, toasted grains, gentle spices, and a smoky touch. On the palate, it is vibrant and incisive, defined by precision, purity, and vertical drive. The perlage is delicate yet energetic, sustaining a linear, clean, and authentic expression.
1673 Millesimato 2020 This Millesimato, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, is born between 500 and 600 meters above sea level in the Val di Cembra, on loose, sandy-loam soils rich in porphyry. The vines, trained in pergola trentina and guyot systems with a density of 5,000 plants per hectare, yield grapes of remarkable balance. Manual harvesting takes place between late August and early September. After gentle pressing and static settling, the must ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperature. The wine then ages on its fine lees for over seven months, followed by bottle fermentation and 36 months of ageing on the lees. Brut dosage. Disgorged in 2024. At the olfactory, delicate fruit notes emerge — apple and peach — accompanied by hints of yeast and bread crust. On the palate, it is round and fresh, with a creamy texture and lively acidity. The perlage is fine and velvety, supporting a modern, harmonious, and radiant expression.
An event that celebrated Trentino’s identity — a toast to beauty, time, and terroir.
